Apply to run for MedicAlert

Back in early December MedicAlert announced to our members and supporters that we had secured one silver bond charity place in the Virgin Money London Marathon 2017!

When we opened applications for this special event we received a staggering response and were humbled to hear such heartfelt and personal reasons as to why so many of you wanted to raise funds and represent us at the event.

It was a very difficult decision to make, however the application from Jack really did stand out.

In 2003, when he was undertaking his fifth surgical operation out of seven, he had an anaphylactic allergy to the anaesthetic drug Mivacurium. The reaction was so bad that Jack almost didn’t pull through. Fortunately Jack recovered, but the experience meant he became aware of more life-threatening allergies.

Following the diagnosis of further allergies to additional anaesthetics that are used widely in hospitals this was a traumatic time for Jack and his parents. They realised they needed some reassurance that in an emergency Jack’s details would not only be visible, but also wanted to ensure that details could be relayed to first responders without delay. Even with the greatest intentions to help, the drugs that would be typically be given could possibly kill him.

Jack said, “When looking for something that could alert medical professionals I chose MedicAlert for their professionalism, superior products and customer service. MedicAlert only ask for modest subscription per year from their members and I believe it is worth every penny. They keep all my details up to date every year and I think of them as my lifeline in the event of an emergency. My parents also gain comfort and peace of mind from the knowledge I wear my MedicAlert.”

We are incredibly pleased that Jack has taken on this huge challenge for us and we will be there every step of the way and we hope that you will be too.

We will be tracking his progress and Jack will be providing updates, so keep an eye out for new posts and pictures and please feel free to share with family and friends.

Go Jack!

"It would be an honour and privilege to give something back to MedicAlert by representing them to the best of my abilities in this prestigious race and once in a lifetime opportunity."
