How does MedicAlert save lives?
For over 40 years MedicAlert has provided an emergency identification system for individuals with hidden medical conditions, allergies and advance wishes. As a result more than 290,000 MedicAlert Members benefit from the reassurance and protection MedicAlert's system provides.
Member's wear a necklet or bracelet engraved with their vital medical information, personal identification number and the telephone number of MedicAlert's 24 hour emergency service, which gives emergency personnel access to detailed medical and personal information in an emergency situation. The phone service, which operates from the London Ambulance Service, is accessible from over 100 countries worldwide 365 days a year. Some members may wish to use their emblem to direct the emergency personnel directly to their medical information via the phone line if the nature of their condition is sensitive and they don't wish it to be engraved on the emblem. In this instance the emblem will read ‘call for vital details'.
Who has a MedicAlert emblem?
- People with conditions such as diabetes, epilepsy or allergies
- People with mental health conditions such as Alzheimer's or manic depression
- People who regularly take medications
- People who have received an implant or an organ transplant
- People who have an advance decision or living will or organ donation wishes
- People who wish to use the system for next of kin information
