Medical Team

The medical team have the important duty of looking after the medical records of every member and it is their sole responsibility to ensure that all members' records are kept updated and logged onto the system according to various protocols.

The team speak with members directly to gather medical information or speak with their doctor or carer with member's permission.  They are there to help members create their medical record and to make sure that the information inputted onto member's records is complete and all terminology used on members' Emblems is easily understandable by medical professionals and emergency services.    Most importantly, the team help members to prioritise which conditions should be engraved on their Emblem by identifying which conditions would be most important for a medical professional to know in an emergency.

The medical team are not, however, permitted to diagnose, prescribe or advise members on their medical conditions as they do not operate as a clinic.

Every emergency call we receive is recorded and then a follow up call is made by one of the nurses to the emergency professional.  They check that the information given to the emergency services professional was correct and adhered to MedicAlert's standards.  They also take onboard any suggestions which they feel will enhance and benefit MedicAlert's services.

The Medical team consists of  registered nurses from a range of medical backgrounds including A&E, neurology, respiratory care and general wards.  The nurses are managed closely by Dr George Sikharulidze, Head of Services and MedicAlert have recently recruited a Medical Trustee who overlooks the general principles of the medical department and offers his support and guidance when needed.

MedsDr George Sikharulidze, Head of Services says;

"The medical team understand the importance of their work and always strive to deliver the best medical service to their members to ensure that lives are protected.  They are constantly reviewing their work and taking on board the opinions of members and health care professionals to ensure that they operate to the best standards."
