Oliver Pantelides
Oliver is 15 and suffers with a congenital heart condition which he has had since birth.
As a small child Oliver wore a little locket around his wrist that included details of his medical history on a tiny sheet of paper inside the locket. When his mum heard about MedicAlert through her GP she registered Oliver immediately as it was a much securer option and an internationally recognised service.
Oliver's mum can recall a few occasions when MedicAlert has come to the rescue, the most notable time being when Oliver was on a school trip in France. Oliver was knocked over by a bike and badly injured so his teacher took him to the local hospital to be checked over. Oliver explains, "Due to the complications with my heart condition it would have been very difficult for me or my teacher to explain the details of my medical history which is why at the time MedicAlert was such a blessing."
Oliver wears a black Velcro sports band. To look at other Emblems available click here.
Sophie Butler
Sophie is 10 and has Malignant Hyperthermia.
Last month when Sophie visited her dentist for a standard procedure it was feared that her trip could be life threatening. Sophie's father suffers from the genetic medical condition, Malignant Hyperthermia Syndrome, a condition that could potentially be contracted by his offspring.
All of Sophie's immediate family are MedicAlert members. Luckily Sophie has never had any invasive form of treatment where she would need anaesthetic until her dentist informed her she would need one of her teeth to be removed.
Unsure of which anaesthetic Sophie was allergic to her mother panicked and immediately asked the dentist to call MedicAlert as MedicAlert services keep a record of all patient details. One of Medic Alert's on sight nurses confirmed exactly which anaesthetic Sophie was allergic so that Sophie's dentist could carry on with the procedure without any harmful repercussions.
Sophie's mother is extremely grateful to MedicAlert, "I consider the MedicAlert service to be a life -saving one and I never let my children out of my sight unless they have their bracelets on".
