Strictly Queen Arlene Supports Life Saving Campaign

Strictly Come Dancing Star Arlene Phillips joins a host of celebrities supporting MedicAlert's national campaign urging people to protect the health of their loved ones.

As a dancer and mother Arlene Phillips is well aware of the importance of looking after ones health and is fully behind MedicAlert's Save the One You Love campaign, "Many people suffer with hidden medical conditions and I urge them to join MedicAlert as there is always that 1% chance something could happen to you and MedicAlert would save your life."

Arlene knows many people in need of a MedicAlert emblem, "In my immediate family and friendship circle we all have hidden medical conditions; I have an allergy to aspirin and penicillin and so does my daughter, Alana, 27 who also suffers with asthma. My partner, Angus, belongs to a blood donor organisation and our best friend has a serious allergy to sesame seeds".

It was only recently that her friend experienced an anaphylaxis shock. When dining at a restaurant he ordered a dish which contained crushed sesame seeds and was seriously ill. Arlene explains, "He couldn't explain what was happening to him and he could have lost his life and I told him he should wear a MedicAlert emblem!""

A matter even closer to Arlene's heart is her late father who suffered with Alzheimer's, "I always used to make sure that whenever my father left the house he would have a wallet card on him so that, should he get lost or confused about his whereabouts there would be information about his next of kin on him. If I had known about MedicAlert earlier I would have made sure he wore an emblem also."

Thanks to the MedicAlert service, which provides life saving identification systems in the form of bracelets and necklaces, emergency services personnel are able to access life-saving information from the MedicAlert records.

Even those people with mild hidden conditions that consider their condition not to be too debilitating may, at some point, rely on an emblem to save their lives which is why MedicAlert is launching the Save the one you campaign. As Arlene summarises, "No matter how minor your condition is this offers a chance to save your life."
