Diagnosis and treatment of a Member may be hastened and assisted if you have read the vital information engraved on the reverse of the MedicAlert® Emblem.

You will find on the reverse of the Emblem:

  • The Member's primary underlying medical conditions and allergies are engraved in the centre of the Emblem, under instruction from the MedicAlert® Medical Team.
  • The 24 Hour Emergency Line telephone number for the Member's country of registration engraved at the top. Call this number for further medical/personal information on the Member.
  • The Member's unique ID number engraved at the bottom.

N.B. Cards with further details of the Member's known conditions and next of kin are usually carried in the Member's wallet.

MedicAlert® Medical Team

The MedicAlert Foundation of Great Britain and Ireland operates a team of four medical professionals (three nurses and a doctor) who record the Member's medical details on their files and check the information contained on the Member's wallet card.

Information details on the reverse of a MedicAlert® Emblem have been chosen by our own medical professionals (in conjunction with the Member's wishes) to deliver the most pertinent facts in the shortest possible time to their colleagues in the medical and emergency services.

The Emergency Line

  • Additional medical/personal information on the Member, including (where appropriate) details such as current medications, pacemaker serial numbers, surgical history and contact details of both next of kin and consultant physicians can be obtained by dialling the emergency line number.
  • Emergency and medical professionals who call the UK emergency line number will be answered by trained colleagues who operate the line 24 hours a day, 365 days a year at the London Ambulance Service HQ.
  • The UK emergency line number accepts reverse charge calls from anywhere in the world in over 100 languages using a translation service
  • Colleagues will ask the caller for the UK Member's unique MedicAlert® ID number and perform a security check on the caller's identity prior to releasing Member details.
  • Legally binding advance directives and 'living wills' for those MedicAlert® UK Members who choose to have one, are kept on file at the emergency line and can be faxed to doctors attending the Member concerned.
