Lions centennial celebrations

Kirsten Giles, CEO, MedicAlert UK

“As a non-profit our Early Start Programme is only possible thanks to generous donations from our members and supporters. We know the value and peace of mind our membership offers, and the support it also provides first responders attending an incident.

We would like to thank the Lions across the UK and Ireland for undertaking this exciting challenge and for making a huge difference to the lives of so many families.”

Lions around the world have been changing lives for 100 years through humanitarian service. Their Centennial Celebration is a time to mark this milestone, celebrate their legacy and look forward to the next century of service.

MedicAlert is pleased to announce that Lions Clubs across UK and Ireland are taking on a fundraising challenge throughout 2017 to support the charity’s ‘Early Start Programme’ and sponsor 100 children. Each Lions Club is aiming to raise £295, which could provide one child, from birth to 10 years old, with a place on the scheme.

The Early Start Programme offers free MedicAlert membership and ID jewellery to any child up to 10 years old, alongside a personal electronic record that can be accessed by first responders 24 hours a day, from anywhere in the world. This ensures parents and carers are afforded peace of mind that should the worst happen, their child’s medical details, allergies or conditions are relayed to first responders at that critical moment.

In celebration of their 100 year anniversary the challenge sees Lions Clubs taking on something that will have a lasting impact and offer support to many families and children.

Two parents who have first-hand experience of both working in an emergency situation and living with a young child, Joshua, who has a medical condition are community first responders Kate and Xander Mountford. They found out about the Early Start Programme thanks to the Easingwold and Thirsk Lions Clubs.

Kate said, “The programme was a no brainer really and we can’t thank the Lions enough for sharing details about it with us. We have found the perfect protection for Joshua and the reassurance that MedicAlert provides us with is essential.”
