Security precautions in place to protect the loss, misuse or alteration of your information

When you give The MedicAlert Foundation personal information, we take steps to ensure that it is treated securely. Any sensitive information (such as credit or debit card details) is encrypted and protected with what we believe to be the best encryption software in the industry - 128 Bit encryption on SSL.

When you are on a secure page, a lock icon will appear on the bottom of web browsers such as Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Non-sensitive details (e.g. your email address), are transmitted normally over the Internet, and this can never be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we strive to protect your personal information, The MedicAlert Foundation cannot guarantee the security of any information you transmit to us, you do so at your own risk. Once we receive your information, we make our best effort to ensure its security in our systems.

Use of 'cookies' on the website

Like many other websites, The MedicAlert Foundation websites use cookies. 'Cookies' are small pieces of information sent by an organisation to your computer and stored on your hard drive to allow that website to recognise you each time you visit the site. For example, we use cookies to measure the visitor numbers to our pages, to store your country preference for shipping cost calculations and enable the checkout to remember your jewellery item.

The cookies on the site enable us to understand how you use the site through the analytics package to monitor traffic statistics. Cookies are used to track the source of a visitor, their session on the website (to associate multiple pages views to one visit) and whether they are a new or return visitor. This enables us to analyse the information to give you the best browsing experience. Without these cookies our traffic statistics would be inaccurate and we would not be able to identify improvements to the website and constantly improve the user experience.

Email marketing

The MedicAlert Foundation uses email marketing for users who have signed up through the website and imported mailing lists through reputable list providers. The email marketing software tracks how many recipients did or did not open the email and tracks what links were clicked on in the body of the email. This information is available through the reporting section on the email marketing software and is used for analysis of the email campaigns and for sending out follow up campaigns.
