Our commitment to making MedicAlert’s digital services accessible, inclusive, and usable for everyone.

Digital Accessibility

MedicAlert is committed to ensuring that our digital services, including our website, are accessible to as many people as possible, regardless of ability or technology.

We recognise that accessibility is an ongoing process and are actively improving the usability and inclusivity of our online platforms.

Improving Website Accessibility

We are currently undertaking several improvements to enhance the accessibility of our website.

Image accessibility

We are reviewing our website to ensure that images include appropriate alternative text descriptions. Approximately 3,000 images are being reviewed and updated to ensure screen readers can accurately describe visual content to users with visual impairments. This work is ongoing as our website continues to grow and evolve.

Link and navigation improvements

We are reviewing and fixing broken links across the website to improve navigation, usability, and reliability for all users, including those using assistive technologies.

Planned Accessibility Enhancements

As part of our continued commitment to improving digital accessibility, we are planning to introduce an assistive accessibility toolbar to our website.

This optional tool will allow visitors to personalise their browsing experience based on their individual needs.

The accessibility toolbar will enable users to:

  • Use text-to-speech and reading support
  • Switch to neurodivergent-friendly and accessible fonts
  • Adjust colour and contrast settings
  • Modify spacing and page layout
  • Use reading rulers and focus tools
  • Access translation into multiple languages

The toolbar will appear as a small accessibility button on the page and will only activate if a user chooses to use it.

This functionality will support users with visual impairments, cognitive differences, or reading difficulties, and will help reduce the need for users to request alternative formats.

Our Ongoing Commitment

MedicAlert recognises that accessibility is not a one-time task but a continuous process of improvement. As our digital platforms evolve, we will continue to review and enhance accessibility features to ensure our services remain inclusive and usable for everyone.
