As a charity, our Board of Trustees ensures that MedicAlert provides a high quality, life-saving service, as well as guiding the charity forward so that it contines to evolve. The Board of Trustees is supported by our team, led by our CEO Rob Burley.
Rob brings extensive experience from the charity sector, with a strong focus on health and disability. He most recently served as Director of Care, Campaigns and Support at Muscular Dystrophy UK, leading growth in services and partnerships with health professionals. Previous roles include senior positions at Breakthrough Breast Cancer and RNID. Rob has a strong track record in expanding services, engaging communities and creating impactful collaborations. He is deeply committed to MedicAlert’s mission to support people with medical conditions, ensuring they have access to vital information when it matters most and empowering them with confidence every day.
Ian has 30 years of experience in technology, marketing and commercial leadership. He is Chief Revenue Officer at Pluralit, a digital consultancy, and passionate about the role of technology in improving lives. Ian lives with an inherited cardiac condition and has worn a MedicAlert ID since a cardiac arrest in 2015. He credits MedicAlert as a key factor in returning to a demanding international role. Ian brings personal insight, commercial acumen and strategic thinking to the board, ensuring MedicAlert stays focused on innovation, service excellence and the needs of its members at every stage of their health journey.
Masha is a senior clinician with over a decade as a Consultant in Emergency Medicine and extensive NHS experience. She is also Lead Doctor for Sussex Police, working on improving safety in custody settings. Known for managing complex change and uniting partners across sectors, Masha brings both clinical insight and strategic leadership. She is passionate about delivering high-value, effective services to MedicAlert members. Her medical expertise and commitment to member safety ensure that board decisions are grounded in frontline healthcare realities and focused on real-world impact across a range of emergency health situations.
Michael is an experienced paramedic with 18 years in emergency care, working in leadership, education and operational support roles within the NHS and charity sectors. His career includes work with air ambulance services and international medical service evaluations. Michael’s focus at MedicAlert is on ensuring emergency responders can access critical health information quickly. He is dedicated to helping people with long-term conditions live more confidently and independently, knowing their needs are understood in an emergency. Michael brings clinical expertise and a practitioner’s perspective to the board, helping guide service development with compassion and practical insight.
John is a Chartered Accountant with over 35 years as Honorary Treasurer to charities including Samaritans and Helen & Douglas House. He is Managing Director of Corporate Edge, a consultancy focused on strategy and business development. John is also the author of several books published by The Economist on finance, cash management and Excel modelling. His deep financial knowledge and experience in charitable governance help ensure MedicAlert’s long-term sustainability. He is passionate about transparency and strong financial planning, bringing sound judgement and trusted stewardship to the board in support of the organisation’s charitable mission.
David has over 25 years of experience in information technology, primarily in financial services and healthcare. He is currently a consulting partner at Channel 3, a firm focused on enabling change in the healthcare sector through better use of digital technology. David has a keen interest in digitising clinical records and integrating wearable tech to prevent hospital admissions. At MedicAlert, he champions innovation that enhances member care and strengthens digital capability. His technical expertise and sector knowledge help guide the charity’s development, ensuring it remains future-focused and continues to deliver secure, trusted support for members.
Nick is a marketing and communications expert with over 20 years advising brands and charities on strategy and delivering award-winning campaigns. He has led teams in top UK agencies across finance, healthcare and the charity sector, with deep expertise in data-driven marketing, operations and technology. Nick is also a qualified project manager with experience in change management and operating model design. His role at MedicAlert focuses on increasing visibility, impact and efficiency. Nick brings strategic marketing insight and operational know-how to help the charity reach more people and ensure members receive timely, trusted support.
Roma is a governance specialist with experience advising not-for-profits including Wellcome Trust, Action for Children and Oxfam International. She focuses on improving transparency and accountability through clear systems that support business efficiency and leadership assurance. Roma also mentors and provides pro bono support to increase diversity in charity leadership and trusteeship. Her commitment to inclusive governance and operational excellence supports MedicAlert in staying compliant, effective and forward-thinking. Outside of work, Roma enjoys walking around London’s architectural and culinary gems, often combining her love for the city’s history with a passion for great food and discovery.
