"With the confidence I have with my MedicAlert bracelet and membership, I carry on my everyday life as before and know that the right people will be called IF I ever need them."

My name is Kate, I'm 42 and suffer from Long QT syndrome. This rare heart condition can suddenly put my heartbeat into a life-threatening arrhythmia and can be caused by mundane things like my alarm clock going off!

I was born with this syndrome but did not start to show signs and symptoms until I was an adult. In my 20's, I started to collapse on a regular basis and then one day went into cardiac arrest at work.

I had an ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) implanted and I take regular medication. I quickly learned to deal with living my life, newly dependent on my new 'Metal Mickey' machine to keep me ticking along nicely; it put me out of action for a bit, but not for long!

I still work full time and I have an active social life. My passion is falconry as I love how it gets me out and about in the beautiful countryside.

With the confidence I have with my MedicAlert bracelet and membership, I carry on my everyday life as before and know that the right people will be called IF I ever need them.

I sometimes have my down days and feel very tired, but after being told in my early 20's that 40 would be a good age for me, I'm 42 and still going strong.

"I am grateful to enjoy each new day and thankful for my MedicAlert which gives me the reassurance and confidence to live life to the fullest!"
