"It’s always better to be safe than sorry."

Brian joined MedicAlert back in 1972, due to diagnosed heart conditions which meant he was prescribed with a life-saving medication to reduce the risk of blood clots.

As Brian was dependent on driving for his job and therefore was constantly out on the road, he thought it best that his medical conditions were made easily accessible in an emergency, or in case he were to be in an accident, which was why he joined MedicAlert.

“I thought it was a good idea for me to get a MedicAlert ID, as you never know... I could have had a road accident all that time ago and the paramedics may have believed I’d stop bleeding if injured, but the reality is I probably wouldn’t have. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.”

At 86 years old, Brian has now multiple heart conditions and has undergone an angioplasty. He must take a combination of 10 different medications each day.

A few years ago, Brian had a bad turn whilst at his local supermarket, resulting in emergency response paramedics having to attend before admitting him to hospital. The information that his MedicAlert ID was able to provide - to paramedics in the first instance and secondly to hospital doctors - went a long way towards ensuring that Brian was dealt with quickly and appropriately. It’s certain that all of his medical conditions were addressed accordingly a lot earlier than if he wasn’t a MedicAlert member.

When Brian called to speak with our Medical Team after the emergency, he told us he was hugely grateful for the swift treatment he received from medical professionals, simply due to wearing a MedicAlert bracelet and having his MedicAlert Wallet Card to hand.

We love receiving positive feedback from our members, advising us of how their MedicAlert ID has been used to help protect them in an emergency. It gives us further reassurance that we are providing a supportive service and that MedicAlert membership really can save lives!
