Keeping autistic people safe in emergencies

MedicAlert, The UK’s leader in medical ID services is delighted to announce a new initiative with Anna Kennedy Online. MedicAlert supports those diagnosed with autism to live fulfilling lives and offer them, and their families, peace of mind by keeping them safe in an emergency. Anna will raise the awareness of MedicAlert’s services within her valued communities.

MedicAlert is funding 50 membership spaces for those with autism. Children and adults with autism may find it difficult to communicate, especially if they are in a distressing or emergency situation. In such a situation, a MedicAlert ID will alert paramedics of their condition and relay the vital information stored in their online medical record, via the 24/7 Emergency Line. MedicAlert members can also nominate one or more advocates to help set up and manage their full record which is then validated by registered nurses.

Anna Kennedy, OBE, founded the Anna Kennedy Online charity in 2009 after her frustration with the lack of services available to her two sons who both live with an autism spectrum condition. Along with her team, they tirelessly campaign to keep autism acceptance on the agenda. Together with her community of over 100k followers, she has created a space for people to share tips, resources and advice after being diagnosed with autism.

MedicAlert CEO Kirsten Giles commented:

“We are delighted to be working with Anna and her team to help promote autism acceptance, through our charities and services. A MedicAlert membership can contribute to the wellbeing of autisic adults and children as they will feel confident to go out and join in everyday activities. Also, importantly, their families will know they are being kept safe.”

Anna adds:

“Working in partnership with MedicAlert is a privilege for me as I have admired the charity’s work for a long time and I know how important a membership will be for those who have been diagnosed with autism.”

Anna, along with her charity ambassadors, will be choosing who will be awarded the MedicAlert memberships. To find out how to apply for one of the 50 MedicAlert memberships please contact the Anna Kennedy Online charity.

Kirsten recently joined Anna on her “All things Autism” radio show on Women’s Radio Station to chat about how MedicAlert supports those living with autism and their families. You can listen to the programme here.
