Support for those living with dementia

How we support people living with dementia

MedicAlert offers people living with dementia a free MedicAlert ID along with their first year's membership for free. Initially, thanks to a donation from The McLay Dementia Trust, and now by our supporters' and members' donations, we can provide a programme that can support everyone.

MedicAlert's dementia programme

Nearly 1 million people in the UK are living with dementia. 70% of people living with dementia will go missing at least once, with over 40,000 going missing for the first time every year in the UK. MedicAlert provides the Herbert Protocol in a digital form to help find people when they go missing.

The Herbert Protocol is a FREE service that provides information about someone living with dementia, such as routines, favourite places, past addresses, and a recent photo. We work with police forces across the UK so that this information is instantly available and there is the best chance of this person being found safely.
