The MedicAlert Foundation UK and Veterans Dementia Support UK have joined forces to provide additional support for veterans affected by dementia and the people who care for them. The partnership brings together specialist dementia support with MedicAlert’s emergency identification and the Herbert Protocol, helping families feel better prepared for situations where additional assistance may be needed.

Through our partnership with Veterans Dementia Support UK, MedicAlert is helping veterans, their families and carers access greater reassurance and support when living with dementia, Alzheimer’s or memory loss. A key part of this partnership is the Herbert Protocol, provided by MedicAlert as a free service to help ensure important information is available to emergency services if someone goes missing.
The Herbert Protocol allows families and carers to securely record essential details, including a recent photograph, medication, important contacts, routines and places of significance. If a person goes missing, this information can be accessed by the police to help focus the search and support a safe return home.
For veterans and their families, this provides an additional layer of reassurance and means they can plan, knowing that important information is securely recorded and ready to support emergency services when it matters most. Veterans Dementia Support UK provides compassionate support to Armed Forces, Merchant Navy, and Emergency Services families affected by dementia, Alzheimer’s, and memory loss, helping ensure no one has to face the journey alone.
